"Often times we don't appreciate or value what we have until it's lost." -MJLOCATION: Lost in Washington
CATEGORY: Abstract Art with meaningful expression An atom the basic building block of life. Born free flowing in the fluid filled with infinite nutrients to sustain the cells and strengthen the development and growth process. Experience helps elevate perception allowing much for a different perspective or point of view and that's what's expressed in this abstract art piece allowing the colors and flow to lead the way to tell the story of The Lineage and Womb painting. Roughly 30 years ago, around the age of 7 or 8 Mindy Jo painted this abstract piece while living in Washington DC. At the time, she had been experiencing some transitions and family dynamics that can often detour the dynamite potential of the atom so being able to express those feelings came out in The Lineage and Womb painting. The use of bold colors like reds and blues were able to give emphasis on the words that I was unable to articulate at the time. The use of bright colors was for the meaning of my words to be very vibrant and vital for life since the womb is where life is formed. It was in this therapy session in Washington DC that would allow me to express myself through this painting. As I reflect on the technique, time, space, and moments the painting has more value now in 2021, than when I created it. Because it would be this moment that would take me back on the journey to understanding how I became an exquisite butterfly and how I would one day have to learn how to fly again. It appears that the womb in the center of the painting was first. The use of colors such as green connecting to the yellow and red tones give it the radiance and power to sustain the cells of life. From the womb a sperm cell is making its way for attachment and connections. It is the way in which the butterfly is attached to the fallopian tube taking notice of all its cellular potential in the form of DNA connecting all those dots of matter for the miraculous arrival to planet earth. In the lineage and Womb there's no outside stimuli to interfere in this safe space so pure and precious. Perhaps it takes a few minutes for that powerful reaction to form a seed then watch it grow in the womb. Being pregnant with ideas is great but when you carry life in the womb that's very big responsibility and giving the creation up to God is the easy way out but challenge to connect inward. The Lineage and Womb was painted in Washington DC, and wouldn't be framed until around 6th or 7th grade; in New Iberia Louisiana at a frame shop on Main Street. Once it was ready for pickup it would be placed in the living room on display. Connecting the dots along the journey tracing the path that was destined for her. So many moving particles but they all matter in a magnificent way, like the mitochondria the powerhouse cell, a starting point for life's formation. Some family dynamics can illustrate what matters most in life and for me, I matter to me. Despite some seeing it as chaos. Don't get confused the creator always comes front and center like the Lineage and the Womb. Now that I am back in Washington, have experience life on many terms even my own, the painting has more purpose and meaning, but it's missing after 30 years, yet today I appreciate it's worth and value more.
