Artist: City Neighbors High School Percussion Ensemble Location: Baltimore, Maryland As we continue to highlight "Bmore the Reel Artist and Culture Curators," this feature focuses on artist and curators who are making the culture feel good and giving us something to move on! At the moment of check-in for the Arts Townhall meeting, couldn't help but recognize the melodic sounds that were coming from the room. Perhaps my arrival was just in time to listen to the City Neighbors High School Percussion Ensemble before they would put up their instruments. Before the meeting took place, I stepped back into the hallway to learn more about the CNHS Percussion Ensemble. Wasn't sure if Ge'Auhai (Gee-Gee) had gotten me for a surprise when she shared that the music ambassadors had only been practicing for two months. That was very amazing to hear considering they sounded as if they'd been rehearsing since the summer. The CNHS Percussion Ensemble is magnificent, and all the students aspire to compose their own music some day and really care about how the music makes their audience feel. After all, it's those percussion sounds that get us going, and what a treat it is to attend the City Neighbors Winter Showcase. The CNHS Percussion Ensemble is under the musical direction and leadership of Mrs. Shakia Paylor who also sings and plays various instruments. Loading Videos...

Art in its purest form is life and similar to water is essential. In the aspect that it runs deep with a constant flow opening up our awareness as to its various properties. Without art we wouldn't know anything about colors to classify certain cultures, but the artifacts made and preserve for better perspective of that time and place in history. There would be no use for an infrastructure bill without art considering an architect must draw the design in which the city or state wants erected. Without art we wouldn't know much about the various statues which were commissioned for various purposes, so art is more vital and impactful than we often attribute its importance. The various properties of art vary from literature, visual, theatrical, musical, fine arts, along with dance, and folklore. These distinctive properties all have contributed to the shaping of our history and culture with historians preserving its legacy.
Being able to appreciate the Arts and its value will afford more sustainable contributions and commitment to the community for achieving outcomes and should be considered a priority. If we start to examine art as a tool to reimage a city and ensure its accessibility and leverage resources. In that context everyone can contribute to that creative process through instruction, design, or creative arts. The standards should align with advancing the city and community with emphasis on marketing the arts to bolster and foster support to sustain the budgets. Take into consideration the amount of money Congress allocates to the Smithsonian and Kenndy Center for arts, those contributions should also be considered when wanting to reimagine a better city and afforded at all the schools. Art plays a vital role in our society. It allows us to express ourselves even when we don't have the verbal communication skills to articulate such expression. Even when a child cannot say "I love you," they are most likely to express that feeling through art and draw a heart as a symbol of that expression. From literature to architecture the design is art or the prolific prose as an art centerpiece. The canvas allows us to reimagine and create the community that will continue the legacy and importance of access to the arts and being able to cultivate those relationships for sustaining the community is beneficial. Art is how we have come to know history and the beauty and richness which enriches our lives as a collective. Without art we wouldn't know much about culture, fashion, patterns, trends, designs, style for building. Art allows you to reimagine the world around you and create where there is lack with a free flow of expression. It is also the best way to honor cultures, customs, traditions cherished through paintings, sculptures, decor, literature, or artifacts. |
