A new sound has arrived with an infusion of inspiration for the next generation provided by the vibrant and uplifting "Van Van" also known as Savannah Mcconeaughey. At 5 years old "Van Van" has already "Pulled out the Keys," with her smash single and it back to send a loud and clear message to everyone to just "Be You!" Van Van is from North Carolina and often teams up with her father who is her hype man during performances.
She has her own flavor and style along with signature dance moves and is signed to Sunni Gyrl Inc., an MC Lyte management company, so you know "Van Van" didn't come to play unless its her song "Playing Outside Everyday." Be sure to support such an ambitious and amazing inspiration for the next generation, "Van Van." Queens New York is where the sounds of Grand Master Flash and the Furious Five blasted from a boom box or at the Block party would be a catalyst to the creative elements of Hip Hop that captivated Jay Stewart's curiosity of sounds but from vinyl at an early age. This introduction to the sound of Hip Hop grew with Stewart which would later influence his collection for vinyl records and love for the creative process in vinyl. Those records have now turned into an exhibit the Jay Stewart Collection for your enjoyment. Loading Videos... Journey with me to JAVA as we explore some great treasures. The weather was wonderful on Wednesday evening for the Charm city porch concert in Baltimore, Maryland. The community came out to enjoy the soothing sounds of jazz brought by Brandon Woody Trio. The porch concerts cultivated a community connection starting in April 2020. On Wednesday's musicians travel to different areas of the city for an incredible porch concert. Unfortunately, the 2023 calendar year to host a porch concert is at capacity and will open back up in 2024. Special thanks to Mrs. Vanessa Abiaad and family for being a superb host and creating such an intimate space for the porch concert. "This is real jazz. This is what I used to hear down at Village gate back in the day," Mrs. Lewis said of Wednesday night's porch concert. Baltimore Free Fall has been instrumental in ensuring the continuation of events such as porch concerts. "My first concert ever, I saw Brandon and Eddie, so this is a full circle moment with Jevon as a drummer. Nice full circle moment, and favorite things about Baltimore," Lauren shared. The next jam session will be October 11, follow @edhrybyk on Instagram for upcoming showtimes. Loading Videos... The return of Artscape in Baltimore was like a brush stroke on an empty canvas ready to create something beautiful, bold and magical. A moment for the arts to blossom. Despite the weather conditions a love for arts, and culture filled the atmosphere, and the people weathered the storm. So many people showed up to enjoy the activities, concert, and exhibits. The gallery spaces were perfect for the showings and created a vibrant environment while admiring the artwork of various contributors on different scales using mediums of art. I had the chance to chat with Baltimore artist Eugene Coles. Q: How long did this piece Winter in America take to complete? A: A few months, but this was over 50 years ago. The artwork exemplifies and provides a historical marker for the Baltimore Movement. The Heather Grey Gallery had 0520 CARGO exhibit which was very unique in design and materials. Artscape 2023 was a great time and moment to share and embrace the love for arts and culture. If we rewind the original digital content clips to June 30,2017, the 50-year celebration of Hip Hop was marinating in approaching a historic mark not just in North America but on a global scale and scope. Thanks to artists such as Jay-Z or HOV for his contributions and 13th album 4:44. Now let's fast forward to 2023, technology is still a major component and factor in the foundation of Hip Hop music. However, the culture has to catch up with some of the changes and transitions, but social media has played a vital role in discovering new artists sounds and attributes to sounds trendy and becoming a chart worthy for recognition. This is sort of dynamic and different for the record labels because some of the metrics used to assess an artist's album had to be updated. It was very creative and innovative for technology companies to integrate Hip Hop on their platforms and business models designating artist sounds in a playlist format beyond the iPod for exclusive features, pop-up shops, and virtual concerts during a global pandemic. Furthermore, enhancing the experience is the responsibility of the consumer. The 44th former President Barack Obama, appeared to adopt this method and always highlight his music taste through sharing his playlist even if it was political motivated or for appealing to a community that he often overlooked. Not sure if Jay-Z released another studio album since June 30, 2017, but he was featured on Nipsey Hussle "Judas" song dropping a few bars but nothing to anticipate an album. Moreover, both artists have contributed to the culture of Hip Hop along with its global impact expanding their brands while elevating their sounds through album collaborations or just providing inspiration to uplift the Hip Hop community as a collective whole. It will be amazing to witness where Hip Hop goes from this 50-year milestone history marker, but hopefully ChatGPT will not water it down to cereal box sounds like snap crackle and popping in your ears. Having a classroom agenda is often a huge component for teaching plans. However, it is when the students can articulate through sound and performance the structured learning. That is mutual beneficial and rewarding for both the teacher and students. Despite our country going through insurmountable changes, it is refreshing to witness some educators still have compassion and care about the students in their classrooms. There is tremendous pride in the ability to see the full potential of a student, but it speaks volumes about the type of educator who wants to ensure that student's progression, and City Neighbors High School is very fortunate to have music educator Mrs. Paylor who champions those attributes in students. Surely it hasn't been easy, and every educator has a different formula for success but there are moments such as this Spring Concert that makes all lessons plan worthwhile. City Neighbors High School recently held a Spring Concert, and it was spectacular! The concert kicked off at 6:00 pm in the school auditorium. There was much anticipation building up for such a performance and the CNHS Steel Pan Band didn't disappoint. Such soothing sounds from the band as lead singer Jasmine Pope of J Pope and the HearNow. Music curriculums affords students the opportunity to measure their progress and skills through various techniques making the necessary adjustments for a great concert performance. It also allows CNHS student's such as Taheim McCray to utilize technologies to compose and produce so2und. Under the direction of music educator Mrs. Paylor, McCray was able to produce the beats for the Class of 2023 soundtrack which takes listeners on a journey of the 1st day of high school. The students wrote their own lyrics and will be available for your listening pleasure on Soundcloud music. Click here to listen! Hip Hop is more than a genre of music. It is a culture encompassing many catalogs as a collective contribution to its history. There is controversy in its distinctive origin because of garnering mass commercial appeal, but Hip Hop has many lifestyle curators. A record label has a different relationship with the music and from a commercial point of view its emergence is the early 1980's. On the other hand, organically it dates back to whenever a person in the community or neighborhood could distinguish the characteristics of what is considered a hip hop artist or entertainer by their craftsmanship for rhymes with much reason behind them. The status of being the best artist, DJ, MC, or producer with the amazing beats is mostly selected by the people. Currently, with award shows such as the Grammy's audiences are able to participate in the selection process by voting for the best artist in a particular category. So, the status has been elevated on more than one platform, its organic to the community along with the mass commercial appeal. In some cases, Hip Hop is similar to the Civil Rights movements because of its impact, influence which has curated many creative experiences and calls various socioeconomic challenges and conditions in those environments. However, the response is usually after a violent act which has left some fragments in its acceptance as a culture for figuring out better solutions to those critically conditions which affect the communities and culture as a whole. Hip Hop is an exceptional culture not just because of its global appeal but because of those who have contributed to its elevation along with preserving the culture. Perhaps like Hip Hop artist Jay Z said in one of his songs "numbers don't lie," and 50 years later, Hip Hop has increased in popularity, dominance and impact. Now even having some competition with artificial intelligence facets such as chatGTP. The culture has been adopted without cautious of critique but much focus in the direction of contributions whether through rhymes beats or even fashion. The culture is also dynamic because of its influence on a local level along with global scale and not many can proclaim such significance with longevity especially when the appreciation was not instant. "It's bigger than Hip Hop," is what Dead Prez expressed in a song and that is accurate. The sound of the music from tone, pitch, beat, frequency along with length of song and distribution methods have transformed the culture thanks to artists like Solja Boy. The culture of Hip Hop also opens the doors for discussion of its educational aspects along with influences. The skill requires the use of words to form a rhyme with a particular pattern for a specific beat and having some knowledge of how to get that sound recorded is necessary. Not just that when a record label approaches an artist for a commercial deal, they need to be able to determine the benefits or drawbacks of the deal.
Each coastal state has contributed to the culture through a distinctive sound, dance, and style of dress which has reached global recognition 50 years later. The influence of hip hop culture is not tailored to one specific ethnicity because everyone no matter if they're black or white has experienced some types of environmental challenges which is usually depicted in their distinctive sound or craft. There is also a call and response formula for the music and artist Juvenile best showcases this in his song "back that thang up." That song is equivalent to a negro spiritual and when the beat drops people instantly want to get ready to move to the beat. The advancement in the Hip Hop culture is in apart because of those who have contributed to its existence as well as those who curate experiences such as the Baltimore Museum of Art. Currently, "The Culture," exhibit is open to the public. Honestly, this has been one of the most authentic exhibitions to covey the culture of Hip Hop without taking away from its origins and embracing all the style. "We've been coming for a while, really enjoying it and learning portion," expressed Taylor when asked about "The Culture" exhibit. Not sure how the plans started out but the execution has really highlighted the style and essence of the hip hop culture. "It awesome, very interesting and love how emerging fine art with paintings and he outfits. The exhibition is outstanding," shared Anthony Faulks from Philly. Before the iPod there was a such thing as scratching vinyl records and sampling sounds with various beats, speeds, and frequencies add value to the music. Not all beats and sounds have the same speed pattern or rhythm this is usually expressed in a specific region such as Baltimore, Maryland. The house music sound is distinctive to this region and its tempo is using 127 beats per minute according to DJ Rod Lee who is a pillar in the Baltimore Hip Hop community. Moreover, if you travel to New Orleans Louisiana, you will hear a lot of bounce music but if you travel to Baton Rouge Louisiana you will hear a lot of jigging music. Needless to say, if you travel to Atlanta then you will hear trap music and Chicago has drill music which has been meet with some challenges. The melodic flow, beats, lyrics and rhymes are a few elements which makes the music in the culture worthwhile and measurable even if you are a one hit wonder! It hasn't been highlighted if people learn the lyrics first or get acquainted with the beat or sounds to form movements. Advertising, marketing and radio allows for the repetition along with purchasing the sound recording to sing along and learn the lyrics. Overall, it is the artists contribution which has carved out and created the lane for that specific sound, style of fashion and flow which collectively has encompassed the Hip Hop culture. Pretty does it in a major way! Bringing artist and creatives together to showcase their talents for an incredible Sessions. An event that brings together Baltimore artists to share an interactive experience of Music and Visual Arts. Saturday Sessions was such a spectacular treat with amazing and confident independent artists who came together as a collective to create some beautiful sounds. The sounds were created by using various instruments along with technology and the artists melodies to create.
The mission was fulfilled on Saturday when like-minded individuals came together to build portfolios, catalogs, and contacts. Sessions also provides resources for artists along with literacy in the areas of Copyright Music Tips, Types of Royalties, and Types of Copyright. |
