Many people were at Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens on Saturday July 24. Such a perfect day for pictures with family and friends, and "if you don't like the photo just find another one," a friend said to another. Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens located in Washington, DC is the perfect destination for an experience like no other, the lotus blossom. "Those are a lot of pretty flowers, look how beautiful, it's shaped like a showerhead," Alice said to her parents as they walked around the gardens. The Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens is celebrating it's virtual Lotus and Water Lily festival which kicked-off July 8th. The garden is open to the public from 8:00 am until 4:00 with extended hours designated for certain days. In case you are not able to make it to Washington, the virtual festival has some fun activities for all to participate. The gardens is the perfect backdrop for any photograph and such ambience, peace and tranquility are found here. Moreover, its a magnificent opportunity to see nature's beauty rise out of the muddy Anacostia river wetlands. Native Yellow American Lotus can be found at Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens with a lifecycle beginning under water during the winter. By collecting energy from the sun, the Lotus leaves rise above the water. The center of the flower, a conical, yellow seed pod produces heat to attract a variety of pollinators. Symbolic of a rebirth, resilience, overcoming the odds and getting through difficult times, the Lotus has been around dating back to 1400 BCE. The great god Vishnu and his wife Lakshmi are always accompanied by an open Lotus flower signifying divine love. A powerful symbol of purity in Buddhist belief and of divine love in Hinduism. The Lotus 8 petal are said to represent the cardinal points of the universe, and used in yoga as chakra system. Each petal relating to the functions of each chakras energy center. With all it's symbols, meanings, and beauty it was most certainly refreshing to see the people gather at the Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens after overcoming staying at home for so long. It symbolized their resilience. Here's some cool captures of the Lotus with an Android smartphone. |
