The shift in technology has modernized our society with a standard of connection which sometimes is a challenge for even Congress to keep up with. On Wednesday, January 22, the Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation held the hearing "5G Workforce and Obstacles to Broadband Deployment," with a distinguished witness panel.
The hearing was convene by Senator and Chairman Roger Wicker (R-MISS) to examine the skills and training needed among the telecommunications workforce to deploy 5G networks as well as ongoing efforts within the public and private sectors to address the 5G labor shortage. Along with regulatory barriers that may impede U.S. leadership in next generation communication technology and effort to close the digital divide. Technology has played a vital role in our career opportunities, more now than ever before - an email address is required today for all employment opportunities. Not to mention if you resume includes the key descriptive to determine if it will get to the next level. Many people are no longer able to plan ahead. Considering the shift in job security with technology at the forefront in the job function at some scale or capacity - whether ordering office supplies, or troubleshooting a system. Oftentimes people don't even factor in the cost associates to land the career opportunity which requires applying online. Much has to be taken into consideration when searching for a career opportunity. Ranking Member Senator Maria Cantwell (D-WAS) gave consideration that every country recognizes 5G 's great benefits and economic returns, and having a workforce is important. It is imperative understanding the design and being able to manage the security of these networks shared Senator Cantwell. "We need to respect rule of law," stated Senator Cantwell with regards to establishing standards and practices for 5G workforce and training, taking time to get issues worked out. FCC Commissioner Brenda Carr provided testimony during the hearing, sharing some experience which focuses on expanding America's 5G workforce and free up more spectrum. Currently, Commissioner Carr is addressing the shortage of tower climbers and techs. Moreover, getting the right policies correct in Washington makes the difference. "America has the 5G leading platform," expressed Carr during his testimony. There are new opportunities with 20,000 job openings for tower climbers alone; with a pathway of upward mobility. Mr. Carr suggest it would take 12 weeks for training in the tower industry and land a job. He also considers the Department of Labor playing an important role in 5G jobs to address workforce challenges, along with a FCC working group to expand the 5G workforce. According to the Occupational Outlook Handbook, here are a few careers along the 5G spectrum salaries, and the important qualities one must have :
National Association of Tower Erectors (NATE) President, and CEO Jimmy Miller shared that a better job in publicizing the tower industry would help, and you don't have to climb if you're afraid of heights. The focus area is attracting, recruiting, and retaining a tower workforce. Training is a quick undertaking and need one year on the job to be confident with small cells, antenna installations, and broadband. Mr. Miller expressed a lack of accurate broadband coverage maps at the hearing. He also said, "figure out how to make hard work cool again, can be rewarding and has a great career path." Senator Thune (R-South Dakota) emphasized the end goal is to make sure every citizen has connection to next generation services during the hearing. "We used to store apples, now we store bits," stated Senator Cantwell who supports moving as fast as we can with 5G deployment, while appreciating a collaborative effort. Shirley Bloomfield, Chief Exective Officer, NTCA - The Rural Broadband Association suggest that harmonizing applications would expedite broadband deployment. "We need to encourage partnerships on federal, state, and private levels," stated Bloomfield during her testimony. Furthermore, it's important to understand fiber is providing a direct connection to homes and institutions, suggest Lisa Younger, President and CEO of Fiber Broadband Association. Exploring new opportunities for funding and working with high schools to discuss training and job prospects are some primary focus expressed Lisa Younger in her testimony. Senator Ron Johnson (R- Min) suggest the federal government can focus on broadband, but workforce developed by private sector. He also shared that we tell children they need a four year degree, and have a welfare system that encourages people not to work. A possible solution is get into high schools and encourage them it's no first-class or second-class way to realize their potential- change attitudes towards valuable occupations out there, suggest Senator Johnson. According to Verizon, all cellular networks carry information through electromagnetic spectrum which includes the radio spectrum. 5G, the newest generation of cellular network technology, is going to be the fastest of these networks. Reduced latency as well as speed. 5G uses higher radio frequencies. The anticipated peak speed of 5G is 20 gbps, which is 20 times faster than existing 4G networks top speeds. 5G is expected to improve users experience, power new use cases including industrial automation, internet of things (IoT). Smart cities and those responsible for infrastructure management can rely on 5G's capacity to handle all of the devices should be able to work reliably and securely in high-density areas like factories, airports, and urban centers. Senator Jon Tester (D-MO) suggest the challenge is getting these folks to the program. Highlighting with emphasizing the opportunity there, the cost of community college and make sure the pipeline of students are there. "I have no G on this baby," said Senator Tester during the hearing. Mr. Harold Feld, Senior Vice President at Public Knowledge, expressed carriers just don't come in, make sure things are done right. The collaborations versus barriers in state and local private sectors play a critical role in good faith negotiations. It will require illuminating and elevating the call for industry suggest Senator Cantwell. After all, the career opportunities in the 5G spectrum are plenty with great pay, but don't forget to factor in the cost to land the job.

Today, America honors the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. A noble peace prize winner, civil rights activist and preacher who has contributed so much to this great nation, always remembering his famous "I Have A Dream," speech. Many gather during this weekend to honor and host events celebrating his legacy while recognizing Dr. King's contributions. Gladiators of Success and That a Plug put presented the dynamic 2020 Summit, providing alternate solutions to gun violence.
The "Guns Down Gloves Up" event kick-off was at 10:00 am on January 18, at the Bald Eagle Department of Parks and Recreations in Washington DC. A day filled with so much to offer those in attendance:
It was such a beautiful and inspirational moment for all youth who participated. One young lady was very nervous, however she shared "I am going to be a mortician and cartoonist." @Billionairepa ask the young lady "at 16 years old when was the last time you stood up in front of a group of people and people actually clapped for you." With a slight chuckle trying to find the right words, she replied "that's funny, this is the first time." We wonder why the youth is lost, she is 16, and out of 16 years this is the first time she stood up in front of a group of people that look like her and spoke her dreams into existence and people clapped for her stated @Billionairepa. "This is your time to Shine," shared @Billionairepa. Another youth shared that he will be an etymologist. When the audience was asked "what keeps us from helping each other," some replied fear and being self centered are what keep us from helping each other. The youth and teens certainly showed up and showed out - speaking their dreams into existence, performing a rap, or sparring in the ring. One young lady Khalia Brown even provided some stylish apparel for the audience. The "Guns Down Gloves Up" 2020 Summit providing alternate solutions to gun violence was truly a remarkable experience. We shall overcome by continuing to speak our dreams into existence and helping each other. Technology has certainly transformed everything in our civilization, from our communication to work commutes. Currently, the "internet of things," along with 5G networking system infrastructures are in use. Have you noticed that you can send a tweet, and talk on your smartphone now?
Through years of transformation and transitions, the common factor for all technology is its use of binary tool structure, which often times assist with providing a solution for a concern or issue- what are you attempting to solve or wanting to know? Such a simple question requires much computation of system functions. According to Comptia.org, BIG DATA describes the flood of information and the challenges of collection, storing, and making sense of it. Dictionary.com defines binary as it pertains to computers as of relating to, or written in binary code, programmed or encoded using only the digits 0 and 1. What you put IN is what you get OUT, similar to typing your favorite website into your smartphone web browser. The more in-depth aspect is the role the software developers and engineers play with having a sound solution for the problem, or concern they're solving. Or the application software design they have in mind. Just think how far Microsoft software package has advanced? It's in bundle deal application sold separately, or sold on a gift card, no ala carte menu for the desktop or laptop. The discovery of "BIG DATA: Seizing Opportunities Preserving Values" from 2014 tasked by President Obama's Counselor, John Podesta was imponderabilia. The purpose was indefinite, while recommending how we can embrace big data technologies while at the same time protecting fundamental values like privacy, fairness, and self-determination. Furthermore, the recommendations found in the report describes the "internet of things," as the ability of devices to communicate with each other using embedded sensors that are linked through wired and wireless networks. These devices could include your thermostat, or car. These connected devices use the internet to transmit, compile, and analyse data. The recommendations suggest big data differs for an entrepreneur pitching an idea to a venture capitalist. On January 17, President Obama tasked his Counselor, John Podesta with leading a 90-day comprehensive review of the impact big data technologies are having, and will have, on a range of economic, social, and government activities. Here are two of the recommendations highlighted from the 89 page report:
Technology always raises the questions about how to adapt our privacy and social values in response. The recommendations suggest the US has met the challenge through considered debate in the public sphere, in the halls of Congress, and in the courts- and throughout its history has consistently been able to realize the rights enshrined in the Constitution, even as technology changes. Considering the big data framework was founded and tasked in 2014, it could use an update with a blockchain infusion, along with a little 2020 deep machine learning. Since those recommendations, several breaches have occurred. Most recently, Disney roll out its streaming service Disney+ and a substantial amount of glitches occurred. After several days of system reconfiguration, they found out doing away with certain episodes of programming featuring Michael Jackson would be the solvent. Suppose being able to sufficiently and adequately leverage BIG DATA could be the first dataset for a solution. Leveraging big data would require developing some networking operating procedures that could compartmentalize for better results and classification of capturing all data. Similarly to how your smartphone list all the contacts in alphabetical order. The quality of control maintenance pertaining to data could use some improvements. Furthermore, with the recent implementation, and now in effect California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) the quality control is taken care of. It will take many frameworks to find the perfect fit for BIG DATA and all of it's derivatives, however much is reliant and depending upon the software developers and engineers. Technology is only as good as the problem it is attempting to solve, and if the updates are sufficient then its fundamental functionality can be maximized to its full potential. The possibilities for big data and new discoveries has endless datasets, but should have equal amount of solutions to accompany any recommendations. |
