"Pouring life into the community," is a priority for RICH juice bar that recently opened in the Cherry Hill community on Saturday, May 27th. "You're witnessing history ladies and gentlemen," Mike who is the owner said to the large crowd waiting for the ribbon cutting. He poured everything he has into his business that provides some fascinating benefits for the community such as youth development skills for starters. Investment for community development doesn't typically come from major corporations. It was through donations that the doors of RICH Juice bar could open. And over $80,000 was raised in a half an hour to ensure business operations. This is major because often times it is a challenge to get the bank to finance the venture because they don't assess the value at the same rate renovations need to be made before the establishment could have a grand opening. Cherry Hill, which was once a food desert, has reenergized their community by adding value not taking away from the community to ensure its vitality providing youth opportunity along with refreshing beverages and food to keep you going through out your day. Bridgette, a local business owner was in attendance at the grand opening of RICH juice bar and thought "it's pretty cool and learning about the area." This wasn't her first encounter with a juice bar in the urban community but the first time the juice bar offering youth development. "This has been years in the making. And it provides a space to become a great employee along with bringing financial literacy and work development to the youth at RICH juice bar," said co-owner Danelle. Several local community vendors such as Baltimore Health and Wellness, Sickle cell disease Association of America, along with REACH Behavior Health program were in attendance for the Grand Opening to inform the community of the services provided that are be of benefit to maintaining a healthy lifestyle. "We got the juice," is the tagline for juice bar and the Tropical Spelman did not disappoint. One man in at the Grand Opening suggested that the community will benefit really big from the juice bar because of its benefits to the body. Owner Mike shared with the large crowd that he once had to take all sorts of medication for his diabetes but thanks to his wife introducing him to a healthy lifestyle he is no longer on medication.

Middle Branch Wellness Center is making sure the community can maintain a healthy mind, body, and spirit by supporting these efforts through various engagement activities. On Saturday, May 13th, Kenmindbodysoul held a very soothing yoga flow session "We are One" a healthy mind and community experience. There were over 80 people registered for the yoga event. The gym was filled with mats. Those in attendance were ready for a few yoga poses, releasing stale energy, and rejuvenating their mind body and soul. "I'm glad I came. And this wasn't far, and the building is so beautiful," expressed Nikki.
The yoga flow session was powered by Kennedi Riley. She is a yoga instructor from Baltimore pursuing her doctorate in physical therapy. Before the pandemic, Kennedi would host yoga classes along with community events. "I love it, the community came out and trust that Kenmindbodysoul to help them," she shared before the flow session. The session was very calming and soothing. It was also a time to breathe and honor your existence and release any tension which could've built up in the body from the work week. "We are One," was also a time for event participants to raise their frequency and vibration by getting aligned with oneself. What was most beautiful about the event is that it didn't matter what phase of your self-care journey, Kenmindbodysoul made the flow session simple and a delight for first time yoga participants. The yoga flow session also incorporated a sound bowl for extra relaxation, healing, and meditation. Moreover, it's amazing what a few deep breaths and stretches can do for the body. The results are that you feel much better. Health is wealth because that is how you enrich your mind body and soul to pursue your goals and happiness. The body works many wonders and communicates to you when it needs a liquid, solid, or has to expel waste and ensuring everything functions is the best way to maintaining your health. Prioritizing your self-care as best as possible is the bonus for your nurturing and sustainable lifestyle. What is your self-care regiment? A question which reads to be very simple, but the reality is that most people will have to think about it. Whether your self-care is to support your mental, emotional, financial, spiritual, or environmental health, being able to prioritize these elements of a healthy sustainable lifestyle is imperative and can benefit and support all those areas to be complete, living in your purpose. You do not have to take out a loan at the local credit union to prioritize your health either. Walking is always great exercise, and signing up at your local community recreation center is magnificent. The perks include the opportunity to expand your self-care journey and join a yoga class or urban ballroom dance class. "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press," states the first Amendment to the Constitution of the United States of America. And its interpretation is being challenged by artificial intelligence in the 21st century. Moreover, wow is a great expression, but it doesn't compare in weight to the value of my growth and experience since graduating from the University of the District of Columbia with a Bachelor of Science in Mass Communication 13 years ago. Today is also World Press Freedom Day recognized by the United Nations and celebrated around the world.
So many changes have occurred since walking across that stage and shaking hands with media mogul Radio One owner Cathy Hughes as I received my degree. Once that tassel turned the safety net that was once afforded to me as a student would be torn away and time for some real-life application. Needless to say, the student loan servicer didn't hesitate to wait 24 hours for my degree in my hand before any documents pertaining to student loan repayment went out. I wasn't sure if my friends and I would still be able to hang out or not, and what a job in my college of study Mass Communication would look like. 13 years ago, I was required to meet critical deadlines or have points deducted from my grade. And have copy ready for the University newspaper the "Free Voice," print edition along with a completed budget for the online edition considering I was also the Wed editor. The popular social media networking platforms consisted of Facebook and Twitter. There were no Snapchat or Instagram followers nor Tik Tok dances to learn. In fact, Facebook replaced Myspace a social media platform created by Tom. Back then, I didn't have many digital videos to accommodate the articles written but a photo was always guaranteed with priority. The ability to manage all those tasks and graduate on the Dean's List was very impressive. It solidified my endurance to achieving the impossible and validated my character beyond 140 letters to ensure my credibility is of high quality, honor, and value. Overall, 13 years later, job well done journalist and author. Furthermore, to be recognized by the court is what counts in the end which is why being a member of the 4th establishment has benefited me and enriched my experience over the years. But it came with bold actions and much bravery with boots on the ground to be free as a bird ready to chirp at the rise of the sun. After graduating was much uncertainty, but the journey which has unfolded in unpredictable ways and endless possibilities and has made a proud firebird soaring to new heights. |
