Ways to Save is what's spelled out on the billing statement in a green font! Furthermore that doesn't say much about the steady increase in the Pepco bill during a pandemic. What is Pepco thinking? If the DC Government has extended the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency until October 9, 2020 on moratorium for evictions for any reason, what gives Pepco the perception people can afford to pay a steady increase in their electricity bill?
What is electricity? It appears to be a comprised of two words, or at least you can extract the word electric, along with city. Now perhaps that could present the concern for the pricing, but according wot Merriam-Webster, electricity is a fundamental form of energy observable in positive and negative forms that occurs naturally or is produced and that is expressed in terms of the movement and interaction of electrons. Electric is a current or power. This definition sounds a bit intense but none the less we need electricity to power our homes and even cars if you have a hybrid vehicle. According to the Pepco billing statement, one can calculate the energy charge by Kilowatt-hour, so 231 kWh x $0.010600 per kWh. Those calculations roughly are over $18.00. Moreover, there is then a SOS Provider charge of $16.00. From the months of June until August, the SOS Provider has increased to almost $30.00. Why is that? After contacting the DC Office of the People's Council, I later learned that they had seen an increase in calls with the same concern of an increase in their electric bill. The OPC released a statement on August 12, emphasized that Pepco's proposal to increase rates "has been riddled with errors, missteps, and false information from the start," suggest Sandra Mattavous-Frye. Pepco's rate application includes two alternative multiyear rate plan (MRP) proposals for a massive rate increase between 2020 and 2023, one seeking $147.2 million and the other $135.9 million. If an MRP is not approved, Pepco has asked that rates be immediately increased by $76.7 million under its traditional application. The PSC has scheduled a community hearing on the rate increase application on September 1, however they may request additional time. As recent as August 14, DC People's Counsel Sandra Mattavous-Frye opposes Washington Gas Lights request for a $35.2 million rate increase, with $9.1 million of which are increase stemming from the company's PROJECTpipes accelerated gas pipeline replacement program. Where should I start? Perhaps with the BIGGEST THANK YOU with a SMILE on a world wide scale and magnitude of gratitude first, because without your support none of this would have been possible. Back on July 31, 2013 when I recorded and published the first #W2TMJNS (Welcome to the Mindy Jo News Show) honestly I didn't have the entire format figured out, and my production assistant really wasn't feeling like providing any volunteer support, but it was a work in progress. What I did know is that I had the tools necessary to get started, and because I was willing to learn - just let the show form organically but have something newsworthy to present to the audience. It was much potential in that first show, but would I really be up for this challenge since my journalist days were encountered with news publications making their last print, and the bloggers were taking over. Obviously, I was a little disappointed in the fact that I'd dedicated many learning institution years to only learn my career choice is heading for much uncertainty. Moreover, I did have some web editor skills from my college days, along with my photography skills, so it was time for some real life application. Many ideas are marvelous, but it's that moment when its time to take the action, a sudden change of heart can arise, and will you follow the plan or do something else? Luckily, I stayed the course of the plan and here #W2TNJNS is 7 years later, leading the way in this digital news era. As we are celebrating 7 years on the stream, here are some of the fun stories behind the number 7:
Here are a few of the milestone markers accomplished over the 7 years:
