The best way to care for the planet Earth, is to participate in cleaning up the environment and maintaining those efforts. This could be done on a daily basis. You can simple recycle certain materials such as the soda pop can, or the sandwich wrapper. Furthermore, if you're feeling like an environmentalist, you can even search for species to collect while exploring Kingman Island. What a spectacular learning experience to start your Saturday. On Saturday, September 28, the Anacostia Watershed Society hosted its 3rd annual AWS-Run Bioblitz while celebrating 30 years of service. Participants had the opportunity to go on boat tours, mushroom and insect tours, and so much more. Exploring has also expanded with smartphone apps to help save time on naming the species you observe. The iNaturalists is a citizen science project, equipped with an smartphone app for mapping and sharing observations of biodiversity across the globe. This is really great considering if you're an amateur ecologist exploring what lives near the Anacostia river. Eventually you'll forget about all the insects being creepy and crawly, then start to capture their creative looks, but most importantly understand their vital role in the ecosystem while documenting biodiversity in Kingman Island. AWS-Run Bioblitz was by far a very fascinating, fun, and excellent learning opportunity, discovering all sorts of species in the Anacostia River area, Kingman Island to be specific. Being an observer is an important role and you must be paying attention at all times. A insect or mushroom can show up at any given moment. Here are a few of my observations which included 11. There were 9 species that I observed at Kingman Island, and were uploaded to the iNatauralist app. The species included Tropical Pokeweed, Cork Oak, Foxtails, Silver Maple, Fly Honeysuckle, Chicory just to name a few.

Park 7 Apartment Residents Are Ready for The Community Cookout After A Few Changes Were Made9/8/2019 Despite making headlines recently regarding retaliation, and the lack of amenities available for Park 7 residents use, owner Chris Donatelli decided to take action and allow residence to coordinate a community cookout, and Taylor took the lead. It was perfect weather for the community cookout which kick-off at one o'clock Saturday afternoon. The Disc Jokey warmed up, in time for the residence to dance to the rhythm of the music, while children had their face painted. Perhaps from the outside looking into Park 7 apartments, no one would've ever known their were concerns of retaliation or failure to maintain the property providing adequate amenities. Park 7 Apartments is a very pleasant atmosphere and the ambiance is absolutely a perfect place to reside. To get to the community cookout you past the fitness room which was fully equipped, and empty, considering most residents attended the cookout. The community room was certainly ready for the occasion with new furniture. Furthermore, the most rewarding amenity of all was the new grill in time to grill the corn, chicken, hamburgers, and hot dogs. Every hour there was an activity going on at the cookout, from make-overs to karaoke, "people are really happy and surprised," says Taylor who coordinated the community cookout. "Still a lot of work to do, we deserved this," speaking of the cookout, expressed Taylor. Some residence have been residing at Park 7 Apartments for as recent as two months. While Erik, has been at Park 7 Apartments for three years. He took over his brother's apartment after he passed away. Erik was his caretaker. "It's very nice and convenient, and then the Unity Health place is right there, very convenient," expressed Erik when asked about how he likes living at Park 7 Apartments. "Okay, party time," said David walking into the community room, ready to serve the adult residence their choice of beer or wine. There was a two drink maximum for enjoyment along with many $25 gift cards to raffle off. Obviously this was a great way to bring the residence together in a time of celebration rather than expressing grievances. The coordinator still feels the property manager must be replaced with someone who is less likely to retaliate against them. Councilmember Vincent Gray was invited and Taylor didn't see him in attendance although they were looking forward to his support. Community event coordinator Taylor would like to see the building provide more access to navigating food banks and other services. So far they are satisfied with the small change of new furniture for the community room, a few grills, and are looking forward to fixing all outstanding issues. |
