Washington, D.C. - A sunny day, but an even extraordinary turn out for Anacostia Watershed Society (AWS) Earth Day clean up held at First Baptist Church of Minnesota with guidance from site leader Laura Wright! The Earth Day clean up kicked-off at 10:00 am with volunteers having the options to tend to the garden or pick up trash and liter along the streets. So many people care about the conditions in their community, and they demonstrated that by coming together, and making a change through cleaning up and various beautification projects. The AWS mission is to protect and restore the Anacostia River by bringing partners and communities together to achieve a clean and safe Anacostia River for the benefit of all living in its watershed and for future generations. AWS 2021 Earth Day Clean up at First Baptist Church of Minnesota was a great fellowship, with group participation; not to mention the amount of trash and liter collected. Furthermore, pulling out old weeds, adding fresh flowers and 50 bags of mulch to beautify the landscape. It was truly a remarkable way to come together for a common goal and purpose while gaining so much insight about the people and community around you.
